Liquid Friction Modifier
Features

Solid-state Controls -Proven in some of the harshest climates on the globe, the control system and wheel sensor provide the flexibility to fine-tune the distribution of friction modifiers and lubricants for optimum efficiency and performance.


Non-Contact Smart Wheel Sensor- Provides long lasting maintenance free service, available with standard bi-directional or as a one-way version to apply lubricant or friction modifier in one direction only.


Pump- Responsive to the precise commands of the control system and capable of handling a wide range of viscosities, from the stiffest of lubricants to the most fluid friction modifier.


Separate Clean-hands Component Compartment - Adjacent to the reservoir, it provides easy access to the solid-state controls, pump, electric motor and battery (DC Solar units) with the security of a separate lockable sealed lid.


DC Solar or AC Power Source- From the most remote curve, to the busiest subway system, the PROTECTOR® IV Trackside™ Friction Management System is ready. For a completely adaptable system the DC Solar power option with field proven solar panel and non-spillable deep-cycle battery is ideal in even the coldest of climates. The solar panel utilizes premium components for durability, which include vandal resistant Lexan® shielding, and a corrosion proof anodized aluminum backing plate. Heavy-duty mounting hardware keeps it all together in the highest winds. When AC power is close and convenient a universal power-conditioning device allows for voltage input of 100 to 240 volts at 50 to 60 Hz. Both power source types include non-spillable deep-cycle battery and the AC type provides lightning surge protection with lightning strike indicator and safety breaker. Other power source options are available upon request.

Top-of-Rail and Gauge Face Applicators-
Heart of the system...where the wheel meets the rail.

The only difference between the PROTECTOR® IV TOR Top-of-Rail and PROTECTOR® IV GF Gauge Face is the choice of applicator. The PROTECTOR® IV TOR features the MC-4TR® applicators, where the PROTECTOR®IV GF has a choice of three different applicator designs. However, all Portec Rail applicators share a common, basic design. The MC-3®, MC-4®, MC-4XL® and MC-4TR® applicators provide excellent contact on the rail and balanced distribution and wheel coverage. Individually, each possesses unique design features, but all four types provide outstanding, even flow because they share our field proven, patented balanced port design, patented streamlined channels with patented Teflon® coating and wear-resistant distribution blade with V-grooves. Designed to fit a wide range of rail sizes, each easily mounts to worn rail. Guard rail types also available.

A self-contained, stand-up unit with choice of AC or DC (with/without solar panel) power supply as well as sensor or adjustable pre-set timing lubricant flow to suit varied traffic patterns. Designed for transit and tramway rail systems in 25 kilogram (55 pound), 50 kilogram (110 pound) or 100 kilogram (220 pound) grease capacities.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The PL Series of patented electric lubricators are a "Clean Hands" style lubricator and can be used with any of our trackside applicators.
1Cabinet - Specially shaped to take solar panel lid at 60 degrees to horizontal. Holds pump, drive unit, electric controls.
2Ground Tank - Grease keg with grease follower.
3Solar Panel - High quality thin film amorphous silicon module construction, complete with blocking diode to avoid battery discharge to panel during darkness.
4Grease Pump - Positive displacement high efficiency pump situated at bottom of grease keg.
5Motor/Gearbox Drive - Robust worm/wheel gearbox with 12V DC permanent magnet motor.
6Battery - Dri-fit 12V DC 15 ampere hour capacity (standard with solar panel).
7Control Unit - Control Box with electronic timers and switches for isolation and priming.
8Grease Outlet Pipe - From pump head to outside of cabinet terminating in hose tail to connect to distribution system.

The MC-3®, MC-4® and MC-4XL® (extended length) are no-grind types designed to perform with all Portec Rail Products, Inc. and competitive brand mechanical, electric and hydraulic wayside lubrication systems.

E-Z FillTM Bulk Grease Transfer Systems
Customized, mobile systems for rail curve grease replenishment of wayside lubricators and on-site stationary systems for bulk rail curve grease storage and transfer. Bulk transfer reduces personnel injury potential and improves lubrication effectiveness by helping to ensure lubricators are properly supplied

Specialized rail flange lubricants for use with wayside lubricators
Graphite and moly based as well as biodegradable and environmentally safe rail curve greases formulated to provide excellent coverage, enhanced carry and reduced sling-off.

CATCH-ALLTM track mats
A high-tech geocomposite material that is effective in protecting soil or ballast at track lubrication sites, bulk handling facilities and equipment storage areas. CATCH-ALL has excellent durability and requires little or no maintenance.

TempFlex™ Bio-based Rail Curve Lubricant
TempFlex™ is the first high-performance rail curve lubricant safe for the environment. Formulated with optimized Biotechbased™ soybean oils and select additives for exceptional anti-wear characteristics, TempFlex™ provides the column strength, carry-down, rententivity and resistance to rain found in the best petroleum-based lubricants. Unlike petroleum-based lubricants, TempFlex™ has a higher flash point, more stable viscosity index, is biodegradable and virtually non-toxic. TempFlex™ is ideal for all trackside, hi-rail, and manual application systems, as well as for use behind rail grinders. Use TempFlex™ as you would any petroleum based rail curve grease. And you can use it with the confidence that you are not only protecting the rail but also satisfying the demanding requirements of your railroad’s environmental department.
